Matthew Tennison is originally a Los Angeles-based photographer, specializing in location and portrait photography, lifestyle and architecture for corporate, advertising and design clients.
He started his career in photojournalism, working for both newspapers and lifestyle publications in the Los Angeles area and also has an extensive career as an award-winning wedding photographer spanning over two decades.
His clients credit him for his ability to leverage technically complex scenarios, his flexibility on location, and adapting to challenges that location work brings.
Matthew received his degree from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California and now resides in Lititz, Pennsylvania with his wife and two sons.
Simplicity is key to my landscape work. Paring something down to its essence presents an alternative perspective to the most common scenes. The study of light is also critical to my work, either natural light or man-made light. Either way, light plays an important role in the images I’m after. As with every image I shoot, 80% of the shot will be there when the shutter is clicked. The rest is about finessing the image, removing elements that distract from the heart of the subject; playing with contrast and/or bringing out skies or textures. The images you see here are all shot with a Canon 5D Mark 3 (5D Mark 2 for the 2008 June Storm #1 image) and typically with a 50mm or 35mm lens.
